Meet the Community School Coordinator

Hi, Genesee! I’m Jamie Aherin, and I’m excited to step into the role of Genesee Community School Coordinator!

Some of you may recognize me from my time as the Branch Manager at P1FCU, where I worked from 2020–2025. While I was born and raised in Moscow, Genesee has become home for my family. My husband was born and raised here, and we now have two kiddos in the Genesee schools who keep us busy and very involved in our community!

My connection to Genesee has grown even deeper through my involvement with the Genesee Civic Association, where I currently serve as Vice President. Through that experience, I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about our community, the people who make it special, and some of the needs and opportunities we have right here at home.

I’m passionate about bringing people together—families, schools, businesses, organizations, and our community as a whole. I believe that when we work together and make connections, we can create incredible opportunities for our students and families and make Genesee an even stronger place to live, learn, and grow.

We are excited to announce that from the beginning of the 23/24 school year, Genesee School became a Community School.

What is a Community School?

A community school model follows 4 key pillars. While each community school is unique, all include the four pillars in their planning and programming process. These pillars include integrated student supports, expanded and enriched learning time and opportunities, family and community engagement and collaborative leadership unique to our community.

What does a Community School look like in Genesee?

Early learning opportunities like offering Head Start.
Dual Enrollment Opportunities in Early Childhood Education.
Partnering with community members to offer diverse learning opportunities, like organizing assemblies on nutrition, health and safety from an array of public speakers.
Offering students basic hygiene products, non-perishable food, school and clothing supplies through our Community Closet.
Doors opening for more grant opportunities.
